PROFILE OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE
COMPANY BACKGROUND Ridings Consulting Engineers, (U.K.) was established in December 1991 specifically to address the consultancy requirements of the Indian market which at the time was preparing itself for liberalisation and the opening of the private sector. Ridings developed cost-effective solutions for GIS, Engineering and other value-added projects. The initial client, Jaiprakash Group of Industries of Delhi, with a turnover of about 800 crores, provided opportunities for the services of RCE in the following areas:
The initial services were provided, by RCE FROM UK through DON GOODWIN & S D BAVEJA, and included advice for system Planning , Procurement, Establishment, Human Resources Development, Training, site Preparation and technical guidance for job execution. The initial task for RCE was to plan, set up and develop a Design Office in Delhi to undertake the above tasks, to provide Human Resources Development and establish a set up of trained staff working to international standards & quality, utilising the state-of-the-art computer system. This resulted in setting up of International Design Engineering Associates in Delhi i.e. IDEA. In order to meet the above aspirations RCE negotiated with and associated international consultants and companies, such as Kaiser Engineers, National Power, Bovis International, Allot & Lomax, littlewoods and many other reputed organisations around the world. After an initial period of working directly for Jaiprakash, the company IDEA took on other Cartographic/GIS consultancy projects in India in order to broaden the home base experience. RCE were principal in creating the market contacts and success was gained by it through award of System Designing & Setting up of Facilities, prestigious GIS Contracts for the Digitisation of survey of India Maps and Cartigraphic Work for Eicher City map of Delhi which is well known by now. Aquaculture Design, Environment Impact Studies for Steel Works and Power Stations, Structural Design for Power Stations & total engineering for Hydro Electric, (run of the river) Power Projects and Cartographic projects were some of the other projects done under our guidance. The expertise built up, in IDEA, in the form of manpower was transferred by RCE to VAI India Pvt. Ltd. This facility, RCE’s second in India, is set up for the internationally reputed Austrian Company, VOEST-ALPINE Industrieanlagenbau GmbH, a company with an annual turnover of Rs. 2,000 crores or 600 million US$. A state-of-the-art CAD DESIGN facility was set up by us very recently covering an area of 12000 sq. feet approximately and our services for Cartography Digital Mapping and GIS were made available together with equipment procurement, vendor inspection & System Maintenance . RCE also incorporated the requirements of Allot & Lomax (International) Ltd. in providing the engineering services for the civil, structural and architectural aspects of power station designs, located both in Europe and in India. The third stage of the evolution of RCE was to attract work from overseas and this stage is still developing with many contacts IN USA, Canada, Europe and the Far East. At this stage a need was felt to set up Ridings Consulting Engineers India Private Limited, which was got incorporated as a Pvt. Ltd. Indian company on 28th Dec,1995, so that we are more competitive in the up coming Indian Market. Many jobs being done under RCE-I include Cartographic Work, Graphic Data Generation through Ground Surveys in addition to GIS Application Development, Digital Data Generation, Map Updating Using Satellite Inputs such as SPOT, TM, IRSI-C etc. RCE-I also offers Geographic and Geotechnical services for Engineering projects, in addition to cartographic services.
